Mechanical Tie Downs VS Chemical Tie Downs

Tie downs are very handy when it comes to fastening cargo loads, cartons and boxes. During lifting and putting them down, using forklifts and transporting them from place to place they might accidentally get dropped and if they contains any fragile material. To avoid such mishaps, tie-downs are used to fasten their openings and firmly. Not only does this make it compact, but it also provides support during hanging or moving.

There are many types of tie downs, which are each suitable for different purposes. One of the most common type is Mechanical Tie Downs. It is also called Ratchet tie down. When using these ratchet tie downs, the total weight of the load needs to be considered. Although, it’s always recommended to get the strongest tie downs for added support and reliability. Its length can be adjusted according to need and it is suitable for securing furniture, vehicles, and other heavy loads.

Unlike mechanical tie downs, chemical tie downs are made from chemical resistant material like rubber and urethane. The biggest advantage in using rubber made chemical tie downs, i that it is able to stretch upto 1.5 times its original size.Another advantage of using chemical tie downs is that it lasts longer. It is able to resists rust formation, heat, oxidation, cold, cracks, sunlight and abrasions.

The Urethane made chemical tie downs are much more elastic and therefore capable of stretching upto twice its original size. One downside of urethane is that it becomes difficult to stretch it in colder temperatures (below -230C) and it may break in extremely cold temperatures (-620C). But, since such harsh temperatures aren’t likely to occure on the Gold Coast, both urethane and rubber are very much useful when handling cargo and goods in humid conditions.

Both of these types have their own purposes, specialities and weaknesses. Depending on your purpose and extent, choose your tie down wisely and hopefully it’ll serve your purpose effectively.
